2023 AFCON Qualifier: Eguavoen may lead Super Eagles against Sao Tome

Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Augustine Eguavoen may take temporary charge of the Super Eagles for next month’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.

The Super Falcons will entertain their fellow Africans at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Sunday, September 10.

The NFF and head coach of the team, Jose Peseiro are yet to agree terms on a new contract.

Eguavoen, according to reports, is now expected to step in on an interim basis.

It would be recalled Eguavoen led the Super Eagles to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The former defender was also in the dugout when the Super Eagles took on the Black Stars of Ghana in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Super Eagles have already secured a place at the 2023 AFCON finals which will be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.
