Cape Verde and Ivory Coast are the latest countries to qualify for the next round.
The tiny island nation needed a late penalty which was converted by Ryan Mendes to beat Mauritania 1-0 on Monday night.
In the second game of the day, Ivory Coast progressed after seeing off defending champions Senegal via penalty kicks.
The match ended 1-1 in regulation time after Franck Kessie’s penalty cancelled out Habib Diallo’s early goal.
Both Cape Verde and Ivory Coast will find out their quarter-final opponents after Tuesday’s games.
In the other last-eight fixtures, Nigeria take on Angola and Guinea face DR Congo.
