African Games: Nigeria and Ghana Reignite ‘Jollof War’ as Rugby Event Begins March 19

The battle for Jollof supremacy heats up as Nigeria takes on hosts Ghana in the opening match of the ongoing African Games in Ghana, followed by matches against Uganda, Madagascar, and Tunisia in pursuit of Rugby Gold.

The senior women’s national rugby team of Nigeria, known as the Lady Stallions, will commence their quest for a historic medal in rugby at the African Games with a clash against host country Ghana on Wednesday, March 20.

Subsequently, Nigeria will face Madagascar before challenging Tunisia and finally Uganda for a quarter-final spot.

Comprising fifteen players, the Lady Stallions boast a blend of talent from home and abroad, aiming for a podium finish in Ghana. The squad includes nine home-based players and six from foreign clubs, showcasing the depth and diversity of Nigerian rugby talent.

Leading the charge are standout athletes such as Iyoha Success, Becky Okitikpe, and Augustar Efe from Edo Rugby Club, alongside notable names like Perpetua Mmanma and Aladeyelu Blessing representing Eco 11 and Delta Rugby Club, respectively.

The team also features seasoned players from abroad, including Precious Felix from Lion’s Women’s Rugby Club in South Africa, Fedelia Omoghan, Glory Ezeude, and Ada Okonkwo from Canada, and Achele Agada from the UK.

Coached by Steve Lewis, assisted by Coach Jeremiah Egbuwe, and managed by Azeez Ladipo, the Nigeria Women’s 7s Final Team List includes talented players from various clubs and countries, poised to make their mark on the African rugby stage.
