A’Ibom REC Tasks Staff on Conduct of Supplementary Election

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC,  Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Isah Ehimeakhe, has tasked staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to prove their worth in delivering a successful and acceptable supplementary election.

Ehimeakhe gave the charge in Uyo, at a maiden meeting with the Heads of Departments (HODs) and Electoral Officers in local government areas.

He disclosed that the rerun election would be conducted in Ibiono Ibom State Constituency and Ini-Ikono Federal Constituency on February 3, 2024.

He said the commission must remain steadfast in their dedication to providing a level playing field for all political parties during the exercise.

According to him, upholding the integrity of the electoral process was not just their duty, but a service to the community and the nation.

His words: “Ýou are aware of our collective mandate, yet I want to still reiterate that our role in the democratic process is pivotal, and the trust placed upon us by the citizens’ demands unwavering commitment to the principles of transparency, impartiality, and efficiency.

“Each of you as Heads of Departments, and Electoral Officers in local government areas play a crucial part in upholding these ideals.

“I am also compelled to bring to your notice the February 3rd Supplementary election coming up in Ibiono Ibom State Constituency and Ini/Ikono Federal Constituency. I want us all to take this exercise seriously for us to be able to deliver an acceptable, free, fair and credible election.

“Being my first experience, I do not have any iota of doubt that you all will work assiduously to deliver a successful election. In fact I do not expect anything less than that. I believe strongly that with God on our side, we will deliver acceptable election.

“As we embark on this electoral journey, let us remain steadfast in our dedication to providing a level playing field for all political parties and ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to exercise their democratic right. 

“Meanwhile, let this meeting be the starting point of a collaborative and successful electoral season.”

The Resident Electoral Commissioner who recently took over from Dr. Cyril Omorogbe, stressed that there was need for them to foster an environment where ideas were valued and solutions sought collectively.
