Another ATBU student arrested for possession of firearms

A 400-level student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Mike James Habila, has been apprehended by the Bauchi State Police Command for alleged firearm possession.

The arrest took place at the student residence in Gubi village.

DAILY POST reports that the arrest comes after a 23-year-old 300-level ATBU student was apprehended for a similar offence last December.

Spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, revealed in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday that preliminary investigations showed the suspect had unlawfully possessed two firearms, a locally-made gun and a locally-made pistol with 9mm live ammunition.

The recovery of the firearms occurred on January 13 when detectives from C Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the DPO, SP Abubakar Naziru Pindiga, acting on credible intelligence provided by a vigilante group, arrested James Habila.

According to the statement, the defendant claimed that the weapon belonged to Samson Irimiya, alias Zaddeos, who was previously arrested in possession of a locally made pistol on May 24, 2021.
