Mikel Arteta is keen to add another forward to his squad this month with both Toney and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen already on the club’s shortlist.

However, Financial Fair Play concerns will restrict Arsenal’s spending power during the January window, which means the Gunners may need to target cheaper alternatives.

According to The Telegraph, Zirkzee is on Arsenal’s radar and the Gunners have been closely monitoring the 22-year-old’s progress in Serie A.

The report claims that Bologna would hold out for a £50 million fee for Zirkzee, who was signed in a £10m (€8.5m) deal from Bayern Munich in August 2022.

Zirkzee has scored seven goals in Serie A this season and his physical presence offers an alternative option to Arsenal’s attack.

Bayern Munich retained a buyback option in their deal with Bologna worth €22m (£19m), while the Bundesliga champions also have an option to be able to match any offer the Serie A club receive for the Netherlands Under-21 international.

Manchester United are also admirers of Zirkzee and have been keeping tabs on the striker at Bologna.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have also been linked with a move for Getafe striker Borja Mayoral.

Reports on Thursday claimed that Arteta’s side have submitted a £22m bid for the 26-year-old, who has scored 12 goals in La Liga this season.
