Arsenal could sell TWO ageing midfielders to fund 22-year-old sensation

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could be ruthless in the January transfer window, selling two ageing midfielders to fund his move for this 22-year-old sensation.

Arsenal are eyeing a move for the 22-year-old Fluminese midfielder Andre Trindade. As reported by The Top Flight earlier, the aim for his transfer is to free up Declan Rice, allowing the England international to play further forward while covering the defensive midfield.

Mikel Arteta does have two deep-lying midfielders already in his ranks – Jorginho and Thomas Partey. However, the problem for Arteta is that the two options are not only ageing, but they are injury-prone. With that in mind, the Spanish boss has put together a radical but efficient plan.

Arsenal could sell two midfielders to fund Andre Trindade deal

According to a report by Football Insider, Arsenal are planning to sell Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the January transfer market to fund the move for Andre Trindade. This is to secure the long-term position of the defensive midfield role, with Arteta planning a fruitful development plan for his new midfielder.

Certainly, this is a smart business strategy from Arteta. In the summer, both midfielders were linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium. From Partey’s perspective, he isn’t guaranteed game time anymore, so the move away would be beneficial for him. From Jorginho’s perspective, he was always signed as a short-term replacement.

Arsenal are a great team and this has been recognised over the last few seasons. However, one factor to Mikel Arteta’s time in charge which has been overlooked is how young the squad is. Given the likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Martin Odegaard who have been important players over the last few seasons, they are only in their younger years and have plenty of time to develop. Throwing Andre into the mix could only mean great things for the future.

Meanwhile, here’s the predicted lineup to face Sevilla on Tuesday.

Do you think Arsenal will sign Andre Trindade?
