Atiku’s Candidacy Threatened As Moves To Sack Ayu-Led NWC Thickens

'Ayu Should Fulfil Resignation Promise Made When He Was Elected'

The move to remove the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, has thickened following a legal suit seeking his removal.

The camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in the last few months has been pushing for Ayu’s removal or resignation.

The PDP Governors who are referred to as G-5 are against northern dominance in key positions in the main opposition party.

The camp of the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar seems not moved by the legal action seeking to sack Ayu and the National Working Committee of the party.

The court had promised to accelerate the hearing seeking the removal of the PDP NWC.

Justice Binta Nyako on the 14th of October, 2022 stated that there is no need for a formal application for an accelerated hearing.

Nyako while giving her reason said because of the very nature of the case, the reliefs sought and the possible impact on the electoral process, she was minded to hear and determine the matter expeditiously.

She then ordered that the matter be fixed for a definite hearing on the 10th of November, 2022.

PDP and Atiku camp, which seem not moved by the suit, had not filed any response to the case filed against the NWC.

The suit was filed by Chuma Chinye a former principal secretary to the former National Chairman (Uche Secondus).

Political observers, however, believe that the suit is being masterminded by Governor Wike’s camp.

Chinye is calling on the court to order the dissolution of the Ayu-led NWC for sundry legal reasons, including non-compliance with the Party’s Constitution in the conduct of the National Convention at which the NWC was elected.

The outcome of the ruling would have a big impact on the legitimacy of the party’s candidate including Atiku.
