Former Napoli player, Laurent Blanc believes Napoli has a shot at overcoming Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, citing Victor Osimhen’s threat.

Osimhen played a crucial part as Napoli advanced to the round of 16, where they are set to clash with the Spanish Champions for a spot in the quarter-finals.

 

Barcelona, having secured their position as Group winners en route to the knockout phase, rely on key players including Polish forward, Robert Lewandowski.

Blanc, expressing his views in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, anticipates an intense showdown and expresses confidence in Osimhen’s ability to shine for Napoli in this high-stakes encounter.

“The Catalans are going through a complicated historical moment on a financial level, it’s nice that they won the championship with Xavi on the bench: he’s bringing back traditional football values,” Blanc said.

“As for the two attackers, Osimhen is a champion and can still improve, he can become one of the strongest in the world. Like the Pole, who however is closer to the end of his career.”

On possible outcome after the two legs, the former Paris St Germain boss said:

“I can’t say too much, I’m just saying that it will be a great show. During my season at Napoli I discovered the culture of defence, but Italian football is also experiencing a moment of evolution. ​

“Barcelona remains the showcase of Spanish football, but will have to deal with the Italian defense school,” He concluded.
