Chelsea 6-1 Middlesbrough (Agg: 6-2): Todd Boehly’s Chelsea puts on a show and sails into Carabao Cup final

In a stunning display of footballing prowess, Chelsea overpowered Middlesbrough 6-1 in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge. This emphatic victory turned around the tie, with Chelsea triumphing 6-2 on aggregate, booking their place in the final at Wembley.

Chelsea, entering the match with a one-goal deficit from the first leg, started aggressively. An own goal by Jonny Howson gave Chelsea the lead, setting the tone for the rest of the match.

The Blues’ dominance was further stamped with goals from Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi, followed by a brilliant finish from Cole Palmer, concluding the first half at 4-0.

In the second half, Chelsea continued their relentless pursuit of goals. Noni Madueke, coming on for Mykhailo Mudryk, made an immediate impact despite a brief injury scare.

Chelsea‘s fifth goal was a showcase of their relentless pressure, with Conor Gallagher setting up Palmer for his second goal of the night.

The match saw a late flourish from Chelsea as Madueke scored the sixth goal, a shot deflecting off Van den Berg. Middlesbrough had a moment of hope with a goal from Matt Crooks, but it was disallowed for offside. But Morgan Rogers did get a consolation moments later.

The final whistle marked a resounding victory for Chelsea, who showcased their depth, tactical acumen, and attacking firepower. For Middlesbrough, despite the loss, there were moments of quality and a fighting spirit that their fans can be proud of.

As Chelsea prepares for the final, this match will be remembered as a testament to their strength and a statement of intent for the rest of the competition.

Chelsea’s path to the 2024 Carabao Cup final

Chelsea’s Carabao Cup journey began way back in August when they beat Wimbledon 2-1, which set up a Third Round tie against Brighton which the Blues won 1-0.

Blackburn were the next opponents for Chelsea and a 2-0 win sent the Blues into the Quarterfinals where they overcame Newcastle 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Then, a two-legged 6-2 win over Middlesborough was enough to seal a trip to Wembley.
