Chelsea assistant Jesus Perez fined for Brentford bench clash

Jesus Perez has been Mauricio Pochettino’s assistant at Southampton, Tottenham, Paris St-Germain and now Chelsea

Chelsea assistant boss Jesus Perez has been fined £4,000 for his red card in the latter stages of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Brentford.

Perez was dismissed and later charged with misconduct after a clash with the Bees bench in the 88th minute, with the score at 1-0, when he entered their technical area to try to get the ball back.

A Football Association statement said Perez “admitted his conduct was improper and he accepted the standard penalty”.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has worked with Perez since 2010, apologised to Brentford earlier in the week.

“Of course I think he deserved to be fined and to be punished,” the Argentine said.

“He broke the rules. I need to apologise to Brentford and their coaching staff because you cannot go into their area.

“He knows he made a mistake. He wanted to win. He wanted to help the team and get the ball back and start to play.

“The attitude of Jesus, I want this type of behaviour, but he forgot there was a new rule – if you go into the other technical area you get sent off.”
