Death toll of Kaduna-Abuja expressway auto crash rises to 18

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kaduna Sector Command, says the death toll in the Kaduna-Abuja highway auto-crash has increased to 18, with 27 people injured.

Mr Kabir Nadabo, Sector Commander, confirmed the figure in an update to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The corps confirmed in the early hours of Sunday that 16 people perished and 27 were injured as a result of the tragedy.

According to Nadabo, the collision happened at 05:20 am on the highway near Audu Jangon hamlet.

He stated that the causes of the collision were speeding and overloading of cargo and passengers, which resulted in the high number of victims.

“Our investigation of the incident has revealed that 65 people were involved in the crash, 27 got injured and 18 were deceased,” Nadabo said.

According to him, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC has formed more formations across the country in recent years to ensure rapid response to road traffic crashes, particularly in critical corridors in the country.
