Does picture show oldest and second largest city in Nigeria? – Project FactCheck Nigeria

A WhatsApp user shared a picture claiming to be Offa, and further claiming that Offa is the oldest and the second largest city in Nigeria.

The claim is FALSE

The picture was shared on WhatsApp with the caption “Meet the oldest and second largest city in Nigeria. Offa. So this is not Miami.

First, subjecting the picture to a deep search led to a Facebook post, Unique Africa, which tagged the picture as Mombasa, Kenya.

Further findings showed that one of the buildings in the picture belongs to Kenyan School of Governance. A check on the Facebook page of the school shows the shared picture appearing on the profile of the school.

Second, the oldest city in Nigeria according to findings is Benin City not Offa as claimed by the WhatsApp user.

Third, Lagos, Ibadan and Kano compete in first, second and third place intermittently as largest cities as ranked by different findings.

CONCLUSION
The claim that the picture shows Offa as the oldest and the second largest city in Nigeria is FALSE
