Edo: Police arrest two for alleged possession of firearms, drug trafficking

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old secondary school leaver, Rukevwe George, and a 42-year-old, Ifeanyi Okafor, for allegedly being in possession of fire arms and drug trafficking.

DAILY POST reports that the State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, paraded the suspects before newsmen in Benin City on Tuesday.

Adegboye said Rukevwe was arrested at a location in Benin City while Ifeanyi was arrested by operatives of Safer Highways during a stop and search operation along the Benin/Lagos Expressway

Rukevwe, who attended a secondary school in Delta State, was arrested with one automatic foreign-made double barrel gun and one locally-made single-barrel gun.

According to the CP, Rukevwe admitted that the two guns were given to him by the person who hosted him.

“Our operatives have been on the trail of the suspect and the long arms of the law will soon catch up with him.

“He is yet to give satisfactory explanation as to what he does in military camouflage.

“But, we know that this is the kind of people that will disguise and you think he is a military personnel, and he use it to commit some unimaginable crimes under whatever guise,” he said.

The CP added that Ifeanyi Okafor, a driver from Anambra State, was arrested in possession of eight wraps of Indian Hemp and other substances.

He explained, that the said Ifeanyi was earlier arrested with three wraps of the substance, but due to diligent searching five others wraps hidden inside a tyre of his vehicle were recovered.

Speaking further on Okafor’s arrest, the commissioner of police explained that the operatives of Safer Highways, while on stop-and-search duty along Benin/Lagos Expressway, intercepted one wash-colored Toyota vehicle.

The operatives recovered three well-concealed wraps of substances later found to be Indian Hemp, and some other hard drugs.

In an interview with journalists, Rukevwe who dressed in military camouflage, alleged that the guns belong to his master, Ralph, now on the run.

On his part, Okafor said the hard drugs were given to him to deliver to someone in Onitsha, Anambra State.

“I didn’t know the content but the owner said they were clothes and shoes,” he added.
