Education rejuvenation best recovery process for Yobe – Swiss ambassador

The ambassador of Switzerland to Nigeria, Mr. Nicolas Lang, said the investment in education by the Yobe State government to rejuvenate the sector is the best recovery process for the state.

According to a statement by Director General of Press and Media Affairs Mamman Mohammed, the Swiss ambassador made the statement when Governor Mai Mala Buni paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday in Abuja.

The diplomat noted that without quality education, there will be no development or progress for any state, society, or nation.

“I am happy to learn that the Yobe State Government has engaged in training and retraining of teachers as part of the process to rejuvenate basic education in the state,” he said.

The ambassador assured the continued support of the Swiss government to the northeast states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

Lang said emphasis would be given to education, agriculture, and healthcare delivery to support the government and people of Yobe State.

Governor Buni informed the ambassador that all communities displaced by the insurgency have been resettled, with the exception of the Malundunari community, for which the state government, in collaboration with a development partner, is working towards its resettlement.

“We provided schools, health facilities, water, roads, and others for the smooth resettlement of the communities,” he said.

The governor also emphasised the need for more support in other areas.

“Agriculture is the mainstay of our people. The returnees need more support in agriculture for a sustainable means of livelihood. When there is support in agriculture and infrastructure, these would not only encourage people to stay in their communities but would also curb rural-urban drift,” Buni said.
