Edwin van der Sar In Intensive Care In Croatia

Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, is undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

According to reports, the 52-year-old is receiving care in a hospital in Croatia, where he has been on vacation.

His former Dutch club, Ajax, have confirmed that the 130-cap former Dutch international was thought to be in “stable condition”.

The Dutch giants added, “Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you.”

While Manchester United took to their official social media accounts to write: “Sending all our love and strength to you, Edwin.”

After Ajax finished third in the Dutch league and missed the Champions League for the first time since 2009, Van der Sar resigned from his position as the club’s chief executive in May.

His playing career came to an end after leaving United in 2011. He joined the Ajax board in 2012, and in 2016 he was appointed the club’s CEO.

Van der Sar participated in 266 matches for the Red Devils, helping them win three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League.


Aside from Manchester United, Edwin van der Sar has played for Fulham in the Premier League. Before he retired from the game, he played for Italian giants, Juventus in the Serie A.
