EPL: Neville names Man United star to replace ‘anonymous’ Mason Mount in XI

Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has branded Mason Mount ‘anonymous.’

This was following the player’s lacklustre performance during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.

Neville called on Erik ten Hag to restore Scott McTominay to the United XI, insisting the midfield is in urgent need of surgery.

United was blown away after the interval on Saturday, following a good first half.

Pape Matar Sarr put the home side in front while Lisandro Martinez added an own goal to give the home side a well-deserved victory.

James Maddison and Yves Bissouma utterly dominated the centre of the park.

Mount, who was signed from Chelsea this summer, had another insipid showing which followed an under-par debut earlier this week.

Ten Hag left McTominay on the bench despite his midfield calling out for someone like the Scot.

Neville feels McTominay is well worth persisting with, given the Red Devil’s current midfield malaise.

He told Sky Sports, ‘He’s struggled in both of the first two games Mason Mount he’s been pretty anonymous today.

“What’s clear one way or the other is Manchester United’s midfield needs bolstering.

“That might mean Erik ten Hag has got to go back to Scott McTominay and put him in there and beef it up.”
