Erling Haaland finally set to make decision on new boot deal

Erling Haaland is expected to re-sign with Nike after more than 12 months without an official boot endorsement.

The Manchester City striker was previously under contract with Nike until January 2022 and, with his profile rising to astronomical levels, the decision was made to delay a new agreement and explore all options.

Nike, Puma and adidas have all made offers to Haaland, who has been wearing boots from all three brands over the past year.

The industry belief, according to The Athletic, is that Haaland will sign up with Nike once again, having appeared to show a preference with his boot selection over the past few months.

While no details of Nike’s offer to Haaland have been revealed, it is claimed that Haaland’s representatives are expecting a deal worth close to £20m per year as a reflection of his superstar status. His previous deal with them is reported to have been worth under £1m annually.

Despite the hugely lucrative finances on offer, Haaland’s decision is said to be driven largely by his feelings towards Nike boots.

Nike recently lost City teammate Jack Grealish, who signed with Puma, but are expected to fill the void with a bumper deal for Haaland.

The news comes as a big boost to Nike, who have recently lost agreements with Neymar and Raheem Sterling and also find themselves embroiled in a battle with Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior.

Vinicius, who signed a ten-year deal with Nike in 2018, recently blacked out the branding on his Mercurial Vapor 14 boots and is reported to be looking to terminate his agreement.
