Micky Van De Ven is statistically the fastest player to play in the Premier League this season.

The Dutch defender joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg for £43million in the summer and he has been a revelation in north London.

Van De Ven was an ever-present during Spurs’ 10-match unbeaten run to start the campaign but picked up a serious hamstring injury during their chaotic 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in November.

He missed more than two months of action but his return against Man United in January has been welcomed by Spurs, with his recovery pace crucial for Ange Postecoglou’s high defensive line.

And, in new data released by Sky Sports, the 22-year-old has been clocked as the fastest player in the top flight after reaching a speed of 37.38 km/h.

Ogbene’s quickness was on display as he tormented Dan Burn during the Hatters’ dramatic 4-4 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.

Wolves star Pedro Neto was the third fastest, coming in just behind Ogbene with a top speed of 36.86 km/h.

The Portuguese attacker is enjoying a fine season for Gary O’Neil’s side and has contributed 10 assists and two goals in just 14 appearances this season.

Liverpool’s midfield maestro Dominik Szoboszlai was next at 36.76 km/h, narrowly edging out Dara O’Shea in fifth place.

The Burnley and Republic of Ireland defender joins fellow countryman Ogbene in the top five with his top speed of 36.73 km/h the most surprising inclusion.

Anthony Gordon was sixth-fastest at 36.68 km/h, while Everton midfielder Amadou Onana completed the top seven list at 36.65 km/h.

Gordon’s bursting runs in behind from Newcastle’s left side of attack have been key in the 22-year-old’s impressive season that have him on the brink of the England squad.
