Max Verstappen was booed by some American fans as he stood on the podium at the United States Grand Prix.
The Dutchman secured victory in Texas after fighting his way back to the front of the pack from sixth position.
In doing so, he sent Lando Norris into third and subjected his rival Lewis Hamilton into second.
Verstappen battled hard with the Mercedes star for much of the race, but came out on top, something that he’s done regularly in recent years.
In fact, it was the Red Bull star’s 50th Formula 1 victory, making it a landmark occasion for the 26-year-old and his nearest and dearest, who became the second fastest to the milestone after Michael Schumacher.
As he was presented with his winners’ trophy, loud boos could be heard from some supporters in attendance and they could be heard over the sound of the Dutch national anthem.
Verstappen’s girlfriend, Brazilian model Kelly Piquet, was watching on and appeared puzzled by the crowd who chose to try and ruin the occasion.
Fans could also be heard chanting for Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, with the Mexican driver facing criticism in recent months.
Verstappen didn’t look too fussed though, with his third-straight world championship already in the bag.
Asked by ViaPlay if the booing was annoying, Verstappen said: “No, no.
“In the end, I’m the one who takes the silverware home, so all fine by me!”
