Gabriel Jesus injury latest: Update ahead of Crystal Palace derby as Arsenal striker misses Liverpool defeat with knee problem

Gabriel Jesus is in line to make his return to the Arsenal squad today against Crystal Palace.

The striker sustained a minor knee injury earlier this month, which forced him to miss the Gunners’ 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Jesus might have only scored three Premier League goals this season, but he adds a whole new dimension to the attack, which Eddie Nketiah or Kai Havertz don’t provide.

Arsenal’s next game is against Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, January 20, and it’s live on talkSPORT.

If there are no further setbacks, the former Manchester City striker should be fit to start or at least be part of the matchday squad for the derby.

It’s an important game for Mikel Arteta’s men after three consecutive defeats in all competitions.

Jesus might not be a prolific goalscorer, but he’s an excellent player, and Arsenal are better with him in the side.

The 26-year-old suffered a knee problem last year, which ruled him out for a significant period of time.

But the striker has been taking part in warm-weather training in Dubai and is set for a comeback.

Arteta had hoped Jesus’ injury wouldn’t be long term, and so it’s proven to be.

He remained tight-lipped over the Brazilian’s fitness in his pre-match press conference but admitted he expects his striker to start firing.

Arteta said: “Yes [more goals] but that’s for everybody. We have to share goals, and we are responsible for everything.

“On set pieces, the goalkeeper is responsible, the striker is responsible and when there is a throw-in everybody is responsible for whatever happens with that throw-in.

“We have to share that responsibility, like we have always done.”
