GOtv Boxing Night: Who wins the Mojisola Ogunsanya trophy? …Esepor, Abuchi eye second win

The reigning West African Boxing Union (WABU) featherweight champion, Taiwo ‘Esepor’ Agbaje is aiming to lift the Mojisola Ogunsanya prize for the second time as he takes on Richard Taruc Pumicpic of the Philippines for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental featherweight title at 27th edition of the GOtv Boxing Night on December 26.

The hard-punching champion was announced the best boxer at GOtv Boxing Night 16 where he defeated Tope “TP Rock” Musa in a lightweight contest. Esepor, who is now based in London, has gone on to establish himself as a heavyweight in boxing, boasting a stellar record of fourteen matches undefeated, with nine knockouts.

Also in the running for the prestigious prize is Bartholomew Abuchi who rose to stardom at the 26th edition of the GOtv Boxing Night where he was handpicked by the jury as the best boxer of the night. He was awarded the coveted Mojisola Ogunsanya trophy and N1 million prize for his feat. He will be up against  Adeyemi “Spirit” Adekanla for a national super lightweight duel.

All eyes will be on the twelve pugilists, who stand a chance to be crowned best boxer of the night, slated to compete for glory at the 27th edition of the GOtv Boxing Night set to on Boxing Day, December 26, 2022 at the Tafawa Balewa Square. The six-bout event is sponsored by GOtv, Supa Komando and Aquafina.

Other contests for the day include super featherweight challengers Michael Adesodun and Idris Aloma. Also in the running are Opeyemi “Golden Boy” Ibrahim and Sodiq “Happy Boy” Adeleke who will face-off in a national bantamweight bout, while Graduate boxer Sikiru “Iya Eleja” Shogbesan and Sodiq Oyakojo will square up against each other in a super featherweight challenge contest.

It could also be a female season as Sofiat Lateef and Abosede Akinsanya take on each other in a national middleweight challenge bout. The winner is set to go home with the coveted Mojisola Ogunsanya trophy and a sum of N1million, while the second best boxer will be rewarded with N500,000.

Without a doubt, whoever goes home with a prize at this edition of the event will be stepping into an exclusive club of homegrown talents who have distinguished themselves in Nigerian boxing history.

Meanwhile, it’s not just a boxing affair as top Afrobeats superstars will be on hand to provide maximum entertainment for the fans. Ruger, Pheelz, 9ice, Chinko Ekun and the superstar DJ Exclusive will be there. Supa Komando will also be providing refreshments for all fans present at the Tafawa Balewa square.
