Gov. Oyebanji Seeks More Military Presence In Ekiti

Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has called on the military high command to provide more security presence in various parts of the state to forestall future security breaches in the state.

A statement in Abuja on Thursday by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, stated that Oyebanji made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The governor, who was accompanied by the Senate leader, Sen. Opayemi Bamidele  and other government functionaries, commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for keeping Nigeria safe and indivisible.

According to him, the situation would have been worse without the intervention and contributions of the military.

He said the visit was to brief the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, on the recent killings of traditional rulers and other security breaches in the state.

Responding, the CDS, Gen. Musa commiserated with the governor and assured him of the continuous support of the military to ensure the safety of all citizens.

Musa urged the governor to consider using the locals to complement the efforts of  security agencies in curbing the menace of criminality in the state.

He also stressed the need for the country to have a comprehensive data base of visitors in and out of the nation.

This, according to him, will help the security agencies to keep tab and monitor situations in case of any infringement.

The CDS also appreciated the governor for the support and commitment of his government to the course of the armed forces. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
