Governor Diri Rewards Bayelsa Para Athletes, Coaches, Officials

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, honoured and rewarded the state’s para team, coaches, and officials for their outstanding performance at the second Para Games in Abuja.

Team Bayelsa topped the overall medal table, securing 73 medals, including 30 gold, 24 silver, and 20 bronze.

During the weekly prosperity walk at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Governor Diri announced substantial cash rewards for the athletes.

Gold medalists received one million naira each, while team gold medalists received seven hundred thousand naira.

Silver medalists were awarded five hundred thousand naira, and team silver medalists received three hundred and fifty thousand naira.

Single bronze medalists were rewarded with three hundred thousand naira, and team bronze medalists received two hundred thousand naira.

Participants who didn’t secure medals were recognized with fifty thousand nairas each.

The governor also extended rewards to various committees and officials involved in organizing the event.

The Main Organizing Committee received one point five million naira, the Local Organizing Committee received one million naira, and team officials for gold and silver medals were awarded five hundred thousand and three hundred thousand naira, respectively.

Essential staff and support personnel received one hundred thousand naira each, along with helpers.

Governor Diri congratulated the para-athletes for bringing pride to the state and reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of athletes.

He emphasized that the achievements demonstrated Bayelsa’s prowess in para games and encouraged the athletes to continue their hard work.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Daniel Igali, commended the para-athletes as the country’s best and acknowledged the governor’s dedication to sports development.

He highlighted the governor’s consistent support for youths and sports during his first term, which ends on February 14, 2024.

Director of Sports at the Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi, expressed gratitude to Governor Diri for recognizing and rewarding excellence in sports.

The governor’s commitment to supporting athletes showcased his passion for sports development in the state.
