Graham Potter’s worst moments as Chelsea manager

Hopes were high for Graham Potter when he first took charge of Chelsea back in September 2022.

The ex-Brighton boss earned himself a long-term deal at the club, and looked set to lead the Blues into a bright future under Todd Boehly’s new ownership.

And then it all went wrong.

After a string of poor results, Potter has now been sacked by Chelsea after just over six months in charge.

Here’s the worst moments of his time at Stamford Bridge.

The defeat that led to Graham Potter losing his job.

Chelsea looked devoid of any attacking prowess at Stamford Bridge and were deservedly, and thoroughly, beaten by Aston Villa.

It was a performance that sapped all optimism around Potter’s ability to get a tune out of this Chelsea team out of the fanbase.

Yep, a 1-0 defeat to the team who have been at the foot of the Premier League table for 99% of the season in front of your own fans.

It was as bad as it sounds.

When a Chelsea team can’t even beat Tottenham – a team the Blues have lost to just five times in the Premier League ever – you know things aren’t quite right.

The Blues were terrible at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of February, managing an xG of 0.4 in the defeat.

Having left Brighton for supposedly bigger and better things, Potter’s first game back at the Amex Stadium was not a good one for him.

His new team were well beaten by the highly-flying Brighton, now managed by Roberto De Zerbi, at the Amex Stadium, with two of his new players scoring own goals in the game just to add salt to the wound.

That defeat to Brighton sparked a huge downturn in form for Potter’s side, as Chelsea would go on to lose their next four of their next games in all competitions.

Those losses would come at then hands of Arsenal, Man City, Newcastle and Aston Villa as the Blues would slip down the table into the mid-table mediocrity they’ve been stuck in ever since.
