‘I hope it’s scripted’ – Jake Paul and Mike Tyson urged to make changes to fight as new concerns raised

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson just cannot escape criticism of their boxing clash.

Paul and Tyson have announced their July 20 showdown much to the distaste of several leading figures in the boxing world, with reports suggesting they could touch gloves with professional rules.

There is a 31-year age gap between the pair, and serious health warnings have been issued to Tyson given he will step in the ring aged 58.

Dalton Smith, who recently defeated Jose Zepeda with a brutal KO, has issued his concerned thoughts on the fight, and is hopeful the format will be purely for entertainment.

“Money talks at the end of the day, if it makes money it makes sense as they say,” Smith told talkSPORT.com in an exclusive chat.

“But Tyson is now really old, we saw that against Roy Jones Jr in that exhibition.

“Paul is younger and fresher, so for me it is not to my taste at all. I’d like to think it is scripted to be honest.

“It would be better if it was scripted, I’d hate to see Mike Tyson go in there and get knocked out by Jake Paul.

“Back in his prime years, Paul wouldn’t have been able to carry his spit bucket, but unfortunately money talks at the end of the day.”

Paul has previously been accused of scripting his fights, including by UFC star Paddy Pimblett, who suggested he ‘rigged’ his KO win over Tyron Woodley in 2021.

There is a gulf in experience between the pair

The ‘Problem Child’ has strongly denied the allegations and proven that his fights are sanctioned bouts.

Tyson has attempted to alleviate fears that he is simply too old to enter the ring, by posting footage of him blasting the pads in training.

But fans have even began to question the authenticity of the videos, in addition to his motivation to compete years after his professional retirement.

But, there is a clear incentive to return into the squared circle, given Tyson looks set to pocket a mega $20 million payday for his involvement in the event.

Paul has given his reasons for proposing the contest, insisting it could become one of the highest-grossing boxing events of the century.

It will be broadcast on Netflix around the globe, in a ground-breaking opportunity for boxing to capture the casual interest.
