Ikorodu Local Government (LG) in conjunction with Lagos State Health Management Agency(LASHMA), on Wednesday provided free medical care to vulnerable residents in Ikorodu, Lagos state.
The programme was tagged “Community Storm, Bridging the Gap for a Healthier Lagos.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that those who attended the programme were tested for high blood pressure, sugar level, malaria , diabetes and others.
NAN also reports that people with more serious health issues were referred to hospitals of their choice for additional tests and treatment.
Speaking at the programme, Mr Wasiu Adesina, Chairman of Ikorodu LG, thanked Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu for the programme, and for bringing it to Ikorodu for the benefit of residents.
He also commended residents for coming out en masse to take advantage of programme, saying the medical intervention was a redemption of the promise by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to deliver democratic dividends at the grassroots.
“This programme is a great one and the turn out is impressive.Health is wealth ,that is why this is being done to promote the well being of Ikorodu residents.
“I want to thank Gov. Sanwoolu for this programme and for bringing it to Ikorodu.
“The governor is committed to the well being of the people at the grassroots and that is why we are having this programne.
“I appreciate the people of Ikorodu for coming out en masse and for taking advantage of the free health care programme,” he said.
Adesina advised them to take the cards given to them at the programme to any government hospital as the services they would get had already been paid for.
Speaking, Mrs Mojisola Ojo, Field Supervisor, Eko Social Health Alliance(EKOSHA),an arm of LASHMA,said the programme was meant for the vulnerable,who could not afford to pay for their medical bills
“Today, we did a general test for everyone to ensure that patients know their health status.
“When they get to the hospitals, drugs will be given to them for free because LASG has already made payment in conjunction with UNICEF,” she said.
Earlier, Dr Sunday Elushakin, Medical Team Leader of the programme , said the programme was initiated by the governor for the well being of residents.
Mrs Kofoworola Osho and Blessing Chinedu, who were beneficiaries ,commended LASG for the programme ,saying it helped to care of their health needs.
NAN reports that food items such as snacks, rice and gari were distributed to some of the beneficiaries at the end of the programme. (NAN)www.nannews.ng
