Insecurity: Property worth more than N425bn destroyed in Benue – Commissioner

The Benue State Government says property worth more than N425 billion has been destroyed as a result of attacks by armed herdsmen on farmers in the state.

Mr. Aondowase Kunde, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, made the disclosure while receiving participants of Senior Course 46 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, in Makurdi.

Kunde stated that the continuous crises have devastated property and farmlands worth over N425 billion.

He said that approximately two million people were relocated from local government districts during the time period.

While many people remained in internally displaced persons camps, others were residing with host communities and relatives around the state, according to the commissioner.

He noted that the state has witnessed multiple violent attacks, resulting in loss of thousands of lives.

“Thousands of our people were killed during these attacks, thousands of others sustained several degrees of injuries while hundreds are still missing.

“Property worth N400 billion and crop worth twenty-five billion naira were lost to the crises.”
