IWD: Bauchi women embrace adult education with husband’s encouragement

Women in Bauchi State have embraced Adult Education with the support from their husbands.

Speaking to journalists at a one-day workshop held by the United Nations Children’s Education Funds, UNICEF, yesterday, in partnership with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, some of the women expressed gratitude TO their husbands.

DAILY POST reports that the workshop is to build the capacity of women to accelerate more enrollment of Bauchi women into acquiring basic education, in line with the International Women’s Day Celebration held in Bauchi with the theme “Invest in Women”

The workshop is also in partnership with the Office of the First Lady, the State Universal Education Board and the Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education, BASAME.

One of the beneficiaries of the workshop, Juliana Akinlapa said without the support of her husband, she would not have been able to participate in the workshop, adding that she has also enrolled in one of the Informal learning centres for Adult Education in the State.

“ Until now, I only had a Secondary School Certificate but my husband encouraged me to enrol in one of the informal learning centres for women Adult Education and I have gained a lot from it. Now I can help my children with their assignments at home” she said.

‘ This is not the only training I have attended, I have attended several others too” she added

Another beneficiary, Asamu Aliyu Idris said her husband’s support made her seek a return to school.

The mother of 4, said she was unable to continue with her education after her secondary school due to financial difficulties, adding that her dream is to become a medical doctor.

She promised to maximize the opportunity given to her at the workshop.

Speaking earlier at the training, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Rasheeda Yusuf, emphasised the crucial role women play in nation-building and stressed the importance of establishing informal learning centres to address women’s educational needs.
