Olukemi, the wife of the Ogun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry and the Board Chairman of Odu’a Group, Bimbo Ashiru, celebrated her 60th birthday during the week, and it was indeed a memorable one.
The event started with a thanksgiving service at the All Souls’ Church, Lekki, Lagos.
Filled with praise and thanksgiving to God, well wishers came from far and near to celebrate with the birthday girl and her family.
Delivering a speech at the event, the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, described Ashiru as a virtuous woman.
The thanksgiving service was followed by a reception at the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island.
One of the highlights of the reception was when the celebrant and her husband dancing to the popular song, Who’s Your Guy by Spyro.
Recalling the circumstances of her birth, Olukemi’s father said, “I remember in April 1963, we started having the problem of Kemi and that was because we had to be taking her mother to the hospital almost every week as a result of the false labour she (Kemi) was giving her mother. At the end of the day, we had her as a crying baby. I nursed her and changed her diapers. She was the only one I had to do that for.”
Her husband, Bimbo, added, “Kemi has been wonderful. We met 33 years ago and it has been successful.”
Persoanlities the event include a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; a former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; a former First Lady of Lagos State, Abimbola Fashola; and the Secretary of the National Action Committee on the African Continental Free Trade Area, Segun Awolowo, among others.
