  • The prize money for the Bahrain Masters will surprise many darts fans

The darts Bahrain Masters will see the world’s best darts players go head-to-head for the first World Series title of 2024.

This year’s edition will see rising star Luke Littler involved. The 16-year-old captured the interest of the nation following his sensational run at the PDC World Darts Championship. On his debut, Littler stormed to the final of the tournament, helping him also rise to No 32 in the world and claim a spot on the eight-man Premier League Darts line-up.

Littler was defeated in the final by world No 1 Luke Humphries, 7-4, but his fairytale run at Alexandra Palace has earned him thousands of new fans, with the final making history as Sky Sport’s most watched non-footballing event ever, with a whopping 4.8million viewers turning in.

While he picked up over £200,000 for his fantastic run at Ally Pally, his potential earnings at the Bahrain Masters will shock many fans.

Mail Sport breaks down how much Littler could earn for winning the Bahrain Masters.

What is the prize money?

Over the course of the next two days, the world’s best will compete in the first World Series tournament of the season.

Many will be surprised to see that this year’s total prize fund is £60,000. To put that into context as to how low that is, Littler earned just under that for his win over Brendan Dolan in the quarter-finals of the World Darts Championship.

All players at the Bahrain Masters are guaranteed £1,250, while a win in the first round will see players pocket £2,500.

The winner of the tournament will take home a surprisingly low amount of £20,000.

The round-by-round prize money is as follows:

  • Winner: £20,000
  • Runner-up: £10,000
  • Semi-Finalists: £5,000
  • Quarter-Finalists: £2,500
  • First round: £1,250

Littler’s path to the final

Littler is in action today in the last-16 of the competition and will face Hong Kong’s Man-Lok Leung – who is ranked joint-126 in the world.

Should he defeat Leung, it will only get more difficult for the English teenager.

The 16-year-old will likely face Nathan Aspinall, who is ranked No 4 in the world, for a place in the semi-finals.

But first, Aspinall must get through Lourence Ilagan in the last-16.

Unfortunately for Littler, a semi-final showdown with either Gerwyn Price or Luke Humphries seems most likely.

Littler will be out for revenge following his dramatic defeat to Humphries in the final of the World Championships.

As for Price, the Welshman will be hoping for a better campaign after being knocked out in the third round of the World Darts Championships – losing to Brendan Dolan.

Fans could see an all English final between Littler and Michael Smith.

Smith, like Price, will be looking to put his poor outing at the World Championships behind him.

However, world No 2 Michael van Gerwen is on Smith’s side of the tournament – with the pair likely to go head-to-head for a place in the final.
