Manchester United are reportedly set for a major squad overhaul this summer as new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to stamp his authority at the club.

Ratcliffe’s £1.3bn investment to buy a 25 per cent stake in United was officially ratified last week, and he has already made significant decisions in recent weeks, with the club appointing Omar Berrada as their new chief executive, while they are also trying to agree a deal for Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth to become their sporting director.

Attention is now turning to the playing staff, and United are prepared to offload at least 10 players at the end of the season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Tom Heaton all look set to leave when their contracts expire in June, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Facundo Pellistri are approaching the final 12 months of their respective deals.

With their contracts running down, United are unlikely to get significant fees for any of these players, which could lead to see them selling some more high-profile players to give them money to spend on improving their squad.

United outcast Mason Greenwood has attracted interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, with the Red Devils reportedly seeking £34m for the striker.

Another forward that could be shown the exit door is Marcus Rashford after a disappointing campaign. The England international only signed a new contract last summer to keep him at the club until 2028, but has struggled on and off the pitch this year and United could opt to move him on.

The 13-time Premier League champions are also expected to listen to offers for £86m flop Antony, who has fallen down the pecking order this term under Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag has consistently backed the winger to rediscover his best form, but he appears to be running out of time to turn things around.

Experienced midfielder Casemiro could also leave, with clubs in Saudi Arabia showing interest in the five-time Champions League-winning star.

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez – who are all currently out on loan – are likely to be put up for sale.

United are wary of ensuring they adhere to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, and selling players for sizeable fees will help them achieve this.

Ratcliffe revealed his ambition to knock Manchester City and Liverpool off their perches now that he has a minority stake at United, and the British billionaire appears to feel that the current squad needs to be bolstered for this to be possible.

Ten Hag’s team suffered their 10th league defeat of the season on Saturday when they lost 2-1 to Fulham at Old Trafford, and they are in danger of missing out on next season’s Champions League.

They are eight points outside the top four, and 16 points behind league leaders Liverpool with 12 games left to play.
