Man United fans FUME at a lack of consistency after Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo avoids a red card for a similar tackle that got Marcus Rashford sent off a day earlier in the Champions League

Manchester United fans have slammed the lack of consistency in officiating after seeing Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo escape a red card for a late tackle on Thursday night. 

The Japan international was shown a yellow after catching Toulouse forward Thijs Dallinga on the top of the foot in the Reds’ 3-2 Europa League defeat. 

Some United fans felt aggrieved the 30-year-old did not receive a harsher penalty after comparing the challenge to the incident that saw Marcus Rashford sent off a day earlier. 

The forward inadvertently stood on the ankle of Copenhagen’s Elias Jelert in the Premier League side’s crushing 4-3 defeat in the Champions League. The 26-year-old was dismissed following a VAR review. 

‘No tackle is ever gonna be 100% the same,’ one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter. ‘That’s why we need humans to referee and not computers.

‘Point is they both went to shield the ball and ended up stamping on a player by accident. One got a yellow and the other got a red after a VAR check with multiple slowed down replays.’

Another bemoaned the officiating Erik ten Hag’s side are subjected to, writing: ‘Rules are different when it comes to Man Utd.’

‘The agenda against Man U is so clear,’ wrote one supporter before another agreed adding: ‘Clear agenda against United, they ain’t even hiding it anymore.’

Man United boss Erik ten Hag had criticised the decision to show Rashford a red card, insisting challenges always look worse slowed down. 

‘The red card changes everything,’ said the United manager. ‘I think when you freeze frame it, it always looks so much worse and as I say it takes them so long and they make a red card of it.

‘Come on. The first 25 minutes we dictated, dominated the game, went 2-0 up and then the red card changes everything. We are down to 10 and we are very disappointed.

Endo escaped a sending off but was replaced by Jurgen Klopp at half-time as the Reds suffered a first defeat of their Europa League campaign 

Rashford dismissal sparked intense debate with former players and pundits divided on whether the challenge merited a red card. 

TNT Sports pundit Robbie Savage said: ‘That, for me, is a red card. When you see it there, he’s just gone to protect the ball, but by doing that, that’s a straight red. One hundred per cent a red card.’

However, according to Jamie Carragher, Rashford simply fell foul of the dreaded slow motion replay. He wrote on X: ‘No way is that a red card for Rashford! Hate these slow motion replays & still images that make everything look ten times worse.’
