Man United YouTube fan channel host hits back at ‘nonsense’ claims his ‘negative’ interview with Rasmus Hojlund was ‘questioned by team-mates’- and insists the players were ‘fully aware of it’

Rasmus Hojlund's United team-mates have reportedly taken issue with an interview he gave to YouTube fan channel 'The United Stand' at the start of February

Mark Goldbridge has hit back at criticism aimed towards his one-on-one interview with Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund, after reports it was questioned by the Dane’s team-mates.

The Danish international has been in fine form in 2024, with seven goals from six appearances for the Red Devils before picking up an injury recently after a below-par start at Old Trafford.

During his prolific spell, Hojlund sat down for an interview with ‘The United Stand’ where he discussed everything from his goalscoring form to life in Manchester.

However, while some will have enjoyed an insight into the mind of United’s No. 11, reports emerged in the United We Stand magazine that some of his team-mates were unhappy with his decision, claiming that the platform was built on negativity and slaughtering United players’.

As such, Goldbridge responded on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning, claiming that the majority of the squad knew that the interview was taking place and that it had been weeks in the planning.

‘If players don’t play well, that’s what we do, that’s what I grew up with and it’s no different now,’ he told talkSPORT Breakfast.

‘It’s a load of nonsense actually, that interview took a long time to arrange, it was at Carrington [the club’s training ground], all the players, the club, the manager, everyone was fully aware of it.

‘When you’ve got media commitments it’s not a secret that a journalist comes in and does an interview with a player.

‘It’s just another weird leak, another weird story out of Man United, it’s almost as if we kidnapped Hojlund and did an interview behind their backs.’

He added: ‘We had to persuade them and show them our big audience, they said OK and the player was alright with it, the club was alright with it and everything was fine.

‘It was done weeks ago and then you hear this weekend that a couple of players were unhappy with it, that could be anything.

‘It was well received so maybe those players are a bit jealous, I don’t know, and it might not even be true.’

The United Stand has previously come under criticism from those associated with the club, with former Red Devil Paul Parker once claiming the channel is ‘causing ‘problems’ at United.

However, Goldbridge – who runs the United Stand – had already hit back in the aftermath of the criticism on Monday and insisted that the criticisms stem from ‘jealousy’.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Goldbridge wrote: ‘Jealousy always seems to burn brightest on a Sunday lol! So, that interview took months to put together.

‘Everyone in the club was aware, the player and others were doing media on a training day at Carrington, we were there all morning. If anyone wanted to stop it they could of’.

Back in October, former United defender Parker said he believes Goldbridge has been ‘attacking the club, the manager and the owners of a football club that he doesn’t even love’ given he ‘is a Nottingham Forest fan’.

Speaking about the situation regarding Goldbridge and United, Parker told BonusCodeBets: ‘I don’t like what Mark Goldbridge is doing.

‘It’s a problem. Everyone has to make a living but you have to be very, very thick skinned to make money off the back of something you don’t like.

‘He has no relationship to Man United, he is a Nottingham Forest fan. It’s an incredible skill to do that, actually… To make money on the back of something you don’t like.

‘He is attacking the club, the manager and the owners of a football club that you don’t even love. He has no inner feeling with the club and it’s a scary but incredible feeling to have to be that invested in a club that you don’t support.

‘But that’s also what Man United are about. It’s a club with a massive story and it’s a story that everyone tries to tap into and be a part of.

‘A lot of people are making money because of Man United but it’s madness. One, they don’t support Man United and to be honest, two, they don’t even like football.

Hojlund has hit impressive form in the Premier League for Man United, scoring in six consecutive matches to help the Red Devils.

It marked a significant upturn in form in front of goal, with the £72million summer signing having failed to net in the Premier League until the 3-2 Boxing Day win over Aston Villa.

Hojlund had netted in other competitions, with the striker having now scored 13 goals in 30 appearances in his debut season at the club.
