The Sweden international, who has resumed his partnership at the heart of defence alongside Harry Maguire in recent weeks, was replaced at half-time on Wednesday against Chelsea.

The former Benfica starlet will now miss the visit of the in-form Cherries.

Raphael Varane was pictured in training on Friday after missing the 2-1 win over the Blues with a back issue and will be available this weekend. The Frenchman may still have to settle for a spot on the bench however even in Lindelof’s absence.

Luke Shaw was preferred at centre-half alongside Maguire last Saturday against Newcastle, taking up that role for the second-half against Chelsea with Sergio Reguilon brought off the bench for Lindelof.

Jonny Evans is also fit again after his recent injury. The 34-year-old was brought on as a late sub to help see out the victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Erik ten Hag named Maguire and Evans his preferred centre-half partnership before the latter’s injury suffered in early November.

The United boss will have the options of Varane, Evans and Shaw to partner Maguire when Bournemouth come to town.

United remain without Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen in midfield while Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia are not expected to return until after Christmas.

There was good news elsewhere however with Amad Diallo back in first-training.

The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a superb campaign on loan with Sunderland in the Championship last season and was part of the United squad that travelled to the US for their pre-season tour.

The 21-year-old suffered a knee injury during a friendly against Arsenal but is now back training and will hope to make a similar sort of impression made by Kobbie Mainoo.

The 18-year-old was another to suffer a serious injury in the summer but has forced his way into the first-team picture since returning.
