Manchester United fans delighted as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ‘exciting’ Old Trafford plans are announced

Manchester United fans have been left excited for the future as plans to regenerate the area around Old Trafford were announced.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have taken over football operations at the Premier League giants and are very keen on improving the stadium.

Reports claims that Ratcliffe wants to build a ‘Wembley of the North’, with United’s iconic home in need of renovation.

And fans could be set to see improvements made sooner rather than later as Trafford Council announced fresh plans for the area.

“Exciting and ambitious plans to regenerate an area neighbouring MediaCity and surrounding Manchester United’s Old Trafford football stadium are to be consulted on by Trafford Council,” a statement said.

It also says that the plans will develop a ‘high-quality setting for Manchester United as they develop their plans for a world-class football stadium.’

Fans were quick to express their delight on social media as one on X said: “Seems like everyday is a good news day for MUFC at present. A bright future on and off the pitch around Old Trafford.”

“Looks like sir Jim ain’t hanging around,” added a second.

A third said: “These plans are incredible for Old Trafford and the surrounding areas. No way they’ve been drafted so quick since SJR came in, but he’s certainly enabled the Manchester United element of it. Exciting times.”

“Beautiful. Now let’s get to business and get United back on top, where it’s supposed to be!” added a fourth.

United’s iconic home of Old Trafford already boasts the highest capacity in the Premier League with 74,031 supporters.

However Ratcliffe, whose 25 per cent purchase of the club was granted Premier League and Football Association approval this week, seems keen make it bigger and better.

It remains to be seen if Old Trafford will be renovated or knocked down completely and replaced with a new stadium.

Doing the former could cost an estimated £800million, whilst the latter could be between £1.5bn and £2bn.
