Manchester United star wants Portuguese sensation to join the Red Devils

Amid the international break, players from many different clubs come together under one team to compete for their nation. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is currently on international duty with Portugal, and he started against Liechtenstein in their 2-0 win on Nov. 16 in Euros qualifiers play.

Following the match, Bruno Fernandes was interviewed by sport tv, and the midfielder was asked about one of his fellow countrymen potentially joining Manchester United. That player is 2004-born Joao Neves of Benfica, a midfielder like Fernandes. The youngster is much more defensively-minded than Fernandes, though, and is being hailed as a rising talent in the country. Neves recently made his senior debut for Portugal after impressing this season with Benfica. This is what Bruno Fernandes had to say [via Fabrizio Romano]:

“I would love to have him at United, he has top quality! But it’s João choice…”.

“He’s great player but it depends on the coach ideas! He will have a great future, in United or somewhere else”.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this month that Manchester United scouts had attended Benfica’s match against Sporting on Nov. 12. As Manchester United go through the process of changes in their upper management, the club’s scouts are still waiting on clarification on that front until decisions over January transfers are made.

Could Fernandes become agent Bruno on Manchester United’s potential pursuit of Joao Neves? It’s hard to say, but it must feel good for Neves to hear high praise from one of Portugal’s finest.

With Casemiro seemingly dealing with injury issues constantly and Sofyan Amrabat yet to turn heads at United, it would not be shocking if Manchester United moved for a new defensive midfielder in due time. Perhaps the winter transfer window is too soon, but significant changes in the Red Devils midfield could come as soon as this summer.
