Matt Turner Leaves Arsenal For Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest completed the signing of USA national team goalkeeper Matt Turner from Arsenal earlier today, August 9, 2023.

The American international signed a four-year deal with Nottingham Forest which means he would stay at the club until June 30, 2027.

Matt Turner served as Aaron Ramsdale’s backup when he joined Arsenal from the MLS’ New England Revolution in the summer of 2022.

The 29-year-old made seven appearances for the Gunners last season.

Turner, who has solidified himself as the top Goalkeeper for the USA, took part in all the games at the 2023 Gold Cup, which saw them reach the quarterfinals.

Since Arsenal are interested in signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, Matt Turner’s game time is expected to be very minimal, hence, he had to make the move.

Turner sat out of Sunday’s Community Shield game between Manchester City and Arsenal at Wembley which goes to show how impossible it is for him to have game time at the Emirates Stadium.

After completing his move to Nottingham Forest, the American goalkeeper said, “It feels great to be here. It’s a great challenge and a great step in my career.

“When I heard that there was interest to bring me here, it just felt right for my family, it felt right when my agent spoke to me about it and it feels like the right move for me right now.

“The manager and the backroom staff, everything about the club has a little sparkle to it. It’s felt right from the start and I’m happy it’s got done.”

Nottingham Forest who have signed Chris Wood, Ola Aina, and Anthony Elanga so far in this summer transfer window, will commence their 2023-2024 Premier League campaign on August 12.
