Nasarawa rerun: APC’s Omadefu wins Keana Constituency seat

The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Adamu Mohammed Omadefu, has been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as winner in a keenly contested rerun election for the Keana Constituency seat of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Saturday.

The rerun election, mandated by the Court of Appeal, Abuja, following a November 2023 order, took place in five polling units within Agaza ward of Keana Local Government Area.

The units included Kofar Sarki 001, Kofar Inuwa 002, Central Primary School A 003, Central Primary School B 004, and Kofar Gazagu 005.

Dr. Hassan Imam, INEC’s Returning Officer for the election, said Omadefu secured a total of 557 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Basil Osheka of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who garnered 470 votes.

Imam explained that these newly acquired votes would be added to the candidates’ totals from the March 18, 2023, general elections.

With the addition of the rerun votes, Omadefu’s overall tally now stands at 8,069 votes, while the PDP candidate scored a total of 7,917 votes.

“That Adamu Mohammed Omadefu of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected,” Imam said.

Reacting to his victory, Omadefu expressed gratitude to the residents of Agaza electoral ward and the entire Keana LGA for their overwhelming support.

He pledged to consolidate on his previous achievements and work tirelessly for the betterment of the constituency.
