NCS to collaborate with other agencies to fight hunger

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has said the service is collaborating with other federal government agencies in the fight against hunger.

Comptroller General of the NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on Friday, stated this while briefing newsmen in Kano.

Adeniyi explained that the service was working assiduously to ensure adequate management of the nation’s borders to safeguard industries as well as protect the agricultural sector.

According to him, the agency was collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and other related stakeholders to ensure maximum food security in the country.

He said, “We are working in isolation, we are collaborating with other Federal Government ministries and parastatals to ensure adequate food security in the country.”

The CG stated that the service was also working closely with the border communities to ensure timely intelligence information which will be useful in limiting smuggling of food and other contrabands.

He said as part of the effort to enhance effective community relations between the Nigeria Custom and border communities, the service will construct schools and health facilities to achieve the desired objectives.

He added that the NCS had begun meetings with leaders of the grains market to fine-tune modalities of addressing hikes in foodstuffs prices.
