Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi marked his comeback from a prolonged injury spell, gracing the field for Leicester City in their Championship clash against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.
Having been sidelined for nearly three months due to a serious muscle injury, Ndidi’s absence not only impacted Leicester’s midfield dynamics but also led to his exclusion from the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The central midfielder’s last competitive appearance for Leicester City dated back to December 29, 2023, during a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City, where he played 69 minutes.
Ndidi’s eagerly awaited return unfolded in the 72nd minute of the Sunderland encounter, as he replaced Yunus Akgün in the midfield.
Alongside him, fellow countryman Kelechi Iheanacho entered the fray, taking over from Jamie Vardy in the second half.
As Leicester City pursues automatic promotion to the Premier League, Ndidi’s return is poised to provide the team with a crucial boost, reinvigorating their campaign in the Championship.
