NFF To Settle Jose Peseiro, Randy Waldrum’s Contract Issues In September

The president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has said the country will settle the contract issues of the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro and that of the Super Falcons in September.

The future of coach Peseiro and that of the Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum has been uncertain even before Waldrum led the Falcons to a round of 16 finish at the 2023 Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Even though the coaches are still working for Nigeria, there are speculations that there are a series of ambiguities in their contracts with the NFF.

However, the federation president said in an interview on Kennis FM on Tuesday, August 15, that the federation is expected to decide on their contract next month.

Peseiro was appointed as the Super Eagles coach in May 2022, but his contract is expected to expire after the team’s participation in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, which will commence in January 2024.

Months before the competition, the coach and fans of the Super Eagles are not sure if the Portuguese coach and his counterpart from the United States, Waldrum, would remain in charge of their teams beyond February.

“We are still on it and very soon Nigerians will get the information of where we are about the issue of the coaches. As you know, next month, we (Eagles) have the last match of the AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome, so before then, everything will be concluded,” the NFF president said.

On the contract of Jose Peseiro, Gusau explained, “It’s not supposed to end at the end of June, you know the AFCON was supposed to be from June to July (2023) before it was postponed (to 2024), so the contract basically should have ended by July. We are still in talks with him and his lawyers on that issue.

“Basically, what the contract talks are about is that he should qualify the team for the Nations Cup and also lead the team to the final, but unfortunately, we have the issue that has made CAF shift the tournament to January, so it has affected the whole situation. We will conclude very soon”.
