The competition for the 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League top scorer award intensified as Kano Pillars’ rising star, Yusuf Abdullahi, positioned himself among the frontrunners.
Abdullahi put himself in the mix after a memorable outing on match-day 11, scoring all five goals for Kano Pillars in a spectacular 5-2 victory over Gombe United at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe, on Sunday.
The young talent’s early 11th-minute goal set the tone, and he went on to secure an impressive 4-2 lead by halftime.
Abdullahi capped off his stellar performance with a fifth goal just after the hour mark, propelling Kano Pillars to seventh place in the league standings.
The five goals put in the conversation of top marksmen in the league, but he’s four goals behing chart toppers, Sikiru Alimi of Remo Stars and Robert Mizo who plays for Bayelsa United.
Robert Mizo and Sikiru Alimi are neck-and-neck with nine goals each after 11 games.
Mizo’s late brace salvaged a 2-2 draw for Bayelsa United against Abia Warriors, while Alimi’s solitary goal secured a 1-0 victory for Remo Stars over Plateau United in Ikenne.
