Okuama: No innocent citizens will suffer for killings of 17 soldiers – Delta Gov vows

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State said on Tuesday that the state government and military authorities have agreed that no innocent residents of the state will suffer from the outcome of the March 14 killing of soldiers.

The governor stated this while speaking with State House correspondents shortly after he met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting came barely 24 hours after the Nigerian military was accused of launching reprisal attacks on some communities in the state following the gruesome murder of about 17 soldiers in Okuama community last Thursday.

DAILY POST reports that the personnel were killed by armed gangs during a rescue mission in a clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state.

Speaking on the outcome of his meeting with the president, the governor said: “Mr President assured me that he is in support of peace and we both condemned the killing of the officers and the soldiers who were on a peace mission.

“The issue of whether a place has been burnt down or people have been killed has happened; what is the way forward? The ways forward are two ways. The people that have been killed, the officers and soldiers, we must see how we can find succour for their families and give them a befitting burial.”
