• Andre Onana takes blame for conceding embarrassing goal on his Old Trafford debut

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana demonstrated admirable sportsmanship by accepting responsibility for the goal scored against him on his Old Trafford debut.

In a friendly match against RC Lens, United secured a 3-1 comeback victory.

The 27-year-old Cameroonian international found himself in a difficult situation when RC Lens striker Sotoca managed to lob the ball from just inside his own half, catching Onana off his line, and successfully scoring from a distance of 40 yards.

Despite the challenging moment, Onana displayed humility and professionalism in his post-match interview with MUTV. He willingly took the blame for the goal, showing a strong sense of accountability and a desire to learn and improve as a goalkeeper.

He said (via Manchester Evening News): “I’m happy for the win. Of course we can always be better. 

“Some things we have to try to fix. Like I always say, I am responsible for everything, especially when we concede goals.

“I’m the big man at the back, so I take all the criticism, all the pressure on me. It was a great game for me and for the guys, some important goals and I’m happy for everything.”

Andre Onana’s positive outlook for the upcoming season is evident as he eagerly anticipates the start of the Premier League campaign. The season will kick off with Manchester United facing Wolverhampton Wanderers in a home clash, scheduled for a week on Monday.

He added: “I think this year will be great, I am very excited for the coming games. I’m already excited for Wolves, but we will have to prepare well because it’s not going to be easy. Everybody is working hard and I’m very confident and positive everything will be right if we do the right things.”
