Ondo Amotekun commences ember months border patrol ahead of Yuletide

To ensure a crime-free yuletide, Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, disclosed on Wednesday that its operatives will embark on patrols of border communities across the state.

According to the Commander of the Corps in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the move will ensure that criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum during the yuletide.

Adeleye stated this while parading 11 suspected criminals at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, the state capital.

The Amotekun Commander, who stressed that the Corps has commenced the 2023–2024 Ember Border Patrol activities, explained that six of the suspects were caught with locally-made weapons in preparation to commit crime during yuletide.

“It is not business as usual for anybody planning to cause trouble during this holiday.

“Amotekun operatives will be deployed in all blackspots that have been observed in Ondo State, especially Akure. Our patrol vehicles will be on a 24-hour basis throughout this period.

“In collaboration with other security agencies, we are determined to reduce to the barest minimum all acts of criminal activity ranging from kidnapping, shoplifting, or housebreaking.

“Last year, we were able to rescue over 100 kidnapped or robbed people, but for this year’s patrol, we are ready to do more,” the Amotekun chief stated.
