Ondo: Mentally unstable man allegedly strangles student to death

Arogbo community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State has been thrown in a state of shock following the killing of a 17-year-old student, Timibra Meretighan, by a man suspected to be mentally unstable.

The victim, was a student at the Ijaw National High School in Arogbo and was reportedly writing the Junior Secondary School Examination, populaly known as Junior WAEC when the incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the mentally unstable man managed to gain unauthorised entry into the school premises while it was raining.

It was alleged that some students resorted to mocking the man, which was said to have made him to be enraged and in the process reportedly launched a violent attack on them.

In the ensuing chaos, Meretighan, who could not escape with the same swiftness as his peers, tragically fell victim to the suspect’s grip who strangled him to death.

According to some eyewitnesses who recounted the harrowing scene, the incident has sent shockwaves through the community.

Speaking on the development, the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said “The Principal of Ijaw National High School came to the station and reported that one Oke Loya, aged 27, who took shed at the school security gate during the rain, strangled to death one Meretighan Timibra, aged 17, of Arogbo.

“The suspect claimed that the students called him a mad man. He has been arrested and detained.”
