Ousmane Dembélé Joins PSG From FC Barcelona

Paris Saint Germain have completed the signing of French winger Ousmane Dembélé from Spanish La Liga reigning champions, FC Barcelona.

PSG had to activate a private clause on Dembélé’s contract 12 days ago to enable them to buy the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner at a low price.

According to Italian journalist and a renowned transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona said PSG paid a total of €50.4 million to complete the deal.

A statement from the PSG website confirmed that Ousmane Dembélé has signed a five-year deal with the French Ligue 1 champions which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2028.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup finalist is expected to wear shirt number 23 at the Paris-based football club.

“I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain and eager to play in my new colours. I hope to continue to grow here and make all Club lovers proud,” Dembele said after completing his move to PSG.

While PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi added, “We are delighted to welcome Ousmane Dembélé to Paris Saint-Germain, where he will be an important and committed player for our Club.”

Dembélé who started his professional football career at French Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2014, had his big break in football at Borussia Dortmund where he scored 6 Bundesliga goals in 32 games.

Despite his low goal output, FC Barcelona was wowed by his skillfulness and had to pay a whopping €105 million to bring him to Spain in 2017. But injuries didn’t allow him to live up to expectations.

Amidst his fitness issues, Ousmane Dembélé helped FC Barcelona to win three La Liga titles (2018, 2019, and 2023), two Spanish Cups (2018 and 2021), and two Spanish Supercups (2018 and 2023).
