Oyo election: SDP adopts APC’s Folarin, says Makinde shunned 2019 agreement

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Oyo State has adopted Senator Teslim Folarin, the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate.

On Thursday, State Chairman, Michael Okunlade presided over a meeting attended by party chieftains from the 33 local government areas.

The parley reviewed the performance of the platform in the presidential and National Assembly elections, NAN reports.

The leaders, in separate remarks, said they decided to support Folarin because Governor Seyi Makinde failed to fulfill an agreement with the parties that worked for his victory in 2019.

“Majority of us had decided to join APC, owing to the injustice meted to us in the PDP and since we started,” Okunlade said.

The politician stressed the need to form “a virile coalition with a party that can dislodge this administration that has shown itself to be lacking in development”.

Okunlade, however, explained that the endorsement was just for the gubernatorial contest, urging supporters to vote for SDP House of Assembly candidates.

The declaration came three days after the Labour Party, LP, backed incumbent Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

At a media briefing on Wednesday, the SDP flagbearer Michael Lana, a former Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, had vowed not to step down for the governor.
