Perrie Edwards’ fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain details their similarities to the Beckhams… including pop stardom and being torn apart by work (and reveals she LOVES Victoria)

Happy days: Perrie Edwards' fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain detailed the similarities between themselves and the Beckhams after watching the BECKHAM documentary

The world has gone wild over David Beckham’s eponymous documentary, following his career and life with wife Victoria and their four kids.

And fellow footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed both he and his pop star fiancée Perrie Edwards have been tuning in to Netflix to watch the show – in the wake of whispers that they are in fact ‘The New Beckhams’.

Speaking to The Athletic, the former Liverpool star, who signed with Turkey’s Beşiktaş J.K. earlier this year, scoffed at the suggestion that they were like the megastars: ‘I think they were a bit of a bigger deal than we are’.

He did however note that Perrie’s dazzling career in Little Mix makes her instantly recognisable – much like Spice Girl Victoria – while their long-distance relationship due to his signing is similar to those mentioned between the Beckhams.

After watching Victoria speak about the struggles of moving around the world, Alex admitted he empathised with the Beckhams’ struggles, after moving away from Perrie and their son Axel, two.

Speaking about the documentary, Alex said: ”I thought it was amazing. It was a big eye-opener for me actually. Even as a footballer, knowing how things can be, I didn’t realise how much Beckham had gone through…

‘Even Perrie watched it. She loves Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham).’

Perrie soared to fame on The X Factor in 2011 when Little Mix were formed and the group went on to achieve 19 top ten singles and five number ones on the UK Singles Chart, before going on hiatus in 2022.

Given Perrie’s success in Little Mix, Alex admitted she is well-known wherever they go, saying: ‘People recognise her and know who she is. It’s not like when we’re back home or in France or Italy or other countries, but she’s definitely known out here.’

Alex revealed that Perrie and Axel have been jetting to and from Istanbul to stay with him and the whole family took a trip to the Turkish Riviera last week when he was given some time off during the international break.

He admits distance is the hardest part for them: ‘But even when I was at Liverpool they would often come up for a week and go back down for two weeks because Perrie has to work in London a lot of the time’.

In the Beckham documentary, Victoria shed light on the pains of moving around when David resigned – including stints in Spain and America.

Alex went on: ‘There were elements I could relate to,’ he says. ‘Perrie could relate to a lot of it, too, travelling back and forth and recording while looking after our little boy.

‘He talks a lot now and he’s a bit more switched on at two-and-a-bit, so he’s starting to question where I am and what I’m doing, but he’s slowly understanding.

‘But these are the sacrifices you have to make for your future and your family’s future. They understood this (Besiktas) was the best opportunity to tick all the boxes that I need to tick and come and play some football…

‘They came here last week and it was like a little holiday for us. We’re making it work.’
